May 2025 – Giving Back- Earth Day Reflections: Growing a Greener Indoors and a Healthier Planet

May Newsletter

President’s Message:

Last month, Plantscapers proudly participated in several Earth Day events, sharing our time and passion for plants by educating students, clients, and tenants—and giving away hundreds of plants. Giving back is a cornerstone of our culture, especially when it comes to inspiring young people who represent our future. Each April, we team up with select clients and local schools to celebrate Earth Day and raise awareness. This year, we focused on showing how everyday choices—big or small—can impact the health of our planet. At Plantscapers, this mission is at the heart of what we do: bringing the beauty and benefits of nature into the spaces where people live and work.

Role of Interior Landscaping in a Sustainable Future

While most Earth Day efforts focus on outdoor ecosystems, indoor environments are just as crucial to our well-being and to sustainability efforts. Studies show that people spend over 90% of their time indoors. The quality of these spaces—especially their connection to the natural world—has a profound impact on our physical and mental health, energy usage, and even the planet’s climate.

Indoor plants do more than just beautify a room:

  • 🌿 They improve air quality by filtering harmful toxins, dust, and carbon dioxide.
  • 🌡️ They regulate temperature and humidity, reducing the need for artificial climate control.
  • 🧠 They support mental well-being, decreasing stress and increasing productivity, creativity, and happiness.
  • 🌍 They reinforce environmental awareness, reminding us of our interdependence with nature.

Sourcing Responsibly, Growing Mindfully

As stewards of green spaces indoors, we take great care in choosing plant materials that are sustainably sourced, regionally appropriate, and well-suited to their environments. Healthy plants thrive longer, require fewer resources, and reduce waste over time.

We also strive to minimize our environmental footprint through:

  • Composting and repurposing plant waste whenever possible.
  • Reusing and recycling containers and materials.
  • Prioritizing non-toxic treatments and natural pest management.
  • Supporting growers who emphasize sustainable horticultural practices.

Small Green Choices Add Up

Whether it’s a single potted fern in a hallway or an expansive living wall in a lobby, every plant contributes to a larger ecosystem of health, awareness, and balance. The spaces we create and maintain together are more than just beautiful—they reflect a shared commitment to a greener, more thoughtful future.

Let’s Keep Growing Together

As we celebrated Earth Day, we want to thank you for being part of this journey. Every client who chooses to green their indoor space helps move the world a little closer to a more sustainable future. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the local schools and our clients who celebrated Earth Day. It feels so good to contribute and give back!

We encourage you to take a quiet moment today and throughout the year—open a window, take a breath beside a plant, reflect on nature’s role in your life and workspace. Every leaf matters.

Blessings,
