Hi-De-Ho and here we go. Holiday madness is on its way and still Thanksgiving waits for its yearly debut. Thinking about yams, mashed potatoes, and stuffing sitting around the big bird on the table makes my mouth long for all the sweet and savory tastes arriving next week. But little clues leave me a bit thoughtful about which holiday is coming up when I hear Eartha Kitt roaming the speakers at the store coyly asking Santa Baby for the deed.
Yes, turkey day may simply be a wee hiccup on the way to consumer madness. Yet its significance isn’t lessened because of it. Thanksgiving is the starting gate where families begin their migration from all over the country to ponder together who gets the remote, where are the chips and how to cram the left-over green jello into the fridge.
It’s a preamble and kick-off to the season filled with love, togetherness and who the heck gets to share their room with grandma. Even Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is sponsored by the North Pole! I love it, so if Santa makes an early house-call before the gobbler gets gobbled up; or if Frosty decides to land on the roof during half-time, so be it. Bring it all on, the chaos, the stuffed parking lots, and the whole lotta love that begins on Thanksgiving Day.
